Rejection. Depression. Self-Doubt. Fear of Failure. Pressure to Succeed. Every year, a new group of young people embark on their pursuit of becoming a songwriter, a recording artist, or working in the music industry. While most university Music Business programs offer solid curriculum and an academic foundation about the business of the industry, is there more that should be done to help prepare students for the emotional and mental challenges of being in the industry? This panel of professionals will discuss real mental health issues in the music industry, and offer insights for educators who must balance both teaching and encouraging students’ aspirations with providing a realistic view to the student about what it takes to succeed in the music business.
